Birding News and Features
Join Ken Tarbox and Kristine Schmidt for a tour of some of the local birding hot-spots. A van tour or car pooling will start at the Kenai Visitor Center and drive to various spots around the Peninsula including the mouth of the Kasilof River, Moose River, overlooks of the Kenai Flats gull colony, and a few local lakes for Pacific loons. Also, if the Aleutian terns have arrived a trip to the Kenai Wildlife Refuge Headquarters Lake for a quick look is possible. Bring your own food and drinks and if you do not have a ride just show up and we will make sure someone takes you along. There is very little walking on this tour as most spots are right out of the van or car so all physical abilities are welcomed.
More than just an information center, the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center is a 10,000 square foot facility that houses a permanent collection of local historical artifacts, wildlife exhibits, a museum store, the Saturday Market and a variety of educational programs. The KVCC is open year-round.
